The development of polycarboxylate esters (PCEs) is very closely related to self-compacting concrete (SCC). In the mid-80s, the first projects were launched in Japan using polycarboxylate esters and self-compacting concrete.

It took about 10 more years before these products appeared in Europe in the mid-90s. Since that time, the process has gone very quickly: the development of new products has provided the market with access to polycarboxylate esters and their use as concrete admixtures.

The use of appropriate RFE super-plasticizers for the first time has created the possibility of producing concretes with long-term workability of 90 minutes or more with early cure rates, allowing form work to be removed the next day after concrete is placed.

The concrete retains its consistency very well at 20 °C for more than 90 minutes as required; 1 day later, the compressive strength of the concrete was 8.7 N / mm2, i.e. was already sufficient to remove the form work. Compared with the use of conventional joint ventures, it becomes possible to produce concrete at a plant.
